India has got good, indeed a strong professional base, comprising engineering, medical, technology related education, and management studies, etc…hence numerous colleges/universities could be found for the same in the country.

We would be wrong, if we think that the country is shining only in the professional cadres, as it has got numerous arts and science colleges, renowned universities, providing education under different categories, further the country is exploring and expanding the educational streams in all direction. Moreover, streams like fashion technology, industrial training, film technology, and different other categories under the mainstream of vocational education, also getting dynamic among the students. Now, a new line of clinical research, and material management also advancing in the direction of gaining momentum in many colleges in the country.

Private Colleges

It has equally gained significance as that of government colleges, in the past people did choose such private colleges, only when they cannot opt the seats in the government colleges. But it is not the case anymore, as private colleges/universities are burgeoning with plenty of opportunities to explore, both in terms of education and career choices, for instance Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Sri Ramachandra Medical College/Centre, and Xavier Labor Relations Institute, and many more… have consistently pulled in the students, every year. If we ought to point out a disadvantage about such colleges, then fee structure would be the one, as in the private colleges/universities the fee structure comprising the tuition fees, admission charges, are quiet higher than the other government colleges. Moreover, the concept of ‘management seats’ have been introduced in practice by such colleges, which is usually higher and this trend has directed the higher education via an expensive pathway.

Government Colleges

The government colleges are considered as most prestigious in the country, and every state would be consisting more number of colleges/universities. Of course getting into such colleges have been always difficult, but eventually considered as a pride, especially the IITs, NITs, IMMs, government engineering colleges in different regional places, government medical colleges,… get lined up in the top category of the country.

Deemed Colleges

The deemed colleges/universities have their own syllabus and course programs, of course fee structure, etc… but in order to get the deemed status, the colleges/universities have to get qualified with specified standards of education and infrastructure, as mentioned by the University Grants Commission of India. After fulfilling the standard specifications, the colleges are allotted with the status, but are consistently checked for the maintenance of the same standards, and for further enhancements. There are more than 100 deemed universities/colleges in the country, of which IGNOU, Birla, which falls under the private, and deemed cadre, Punjab Engineering College, VIT, National Dairy Research Institute, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Indian Institute of Science, … are some of the renowned best deemed colleges/universities in the country.

Apart from all this, online colleges, open universities, colleges providing education via correspondence, have enormously increased in the country, in fact have widened the scope of education for women, and girl candidates who would fall under the most backward categories, and below poverty line status. Such correspondence education have induced rebirth for the vocational education category, which has started to grow above average range.
